Start & Finish the Marion Arts Festival Half Marathon & 5K in Historic Uptown Marion February 17, 2014 - 8:30
The Marion Arts Festival Half Marathon and 5K has a lot to offer, with the Half Marathon course being right at the top of the list.
Running 13.1 miles is tough, so you may as well run it on a course that holds your interest and inspires you to keep going.
The start of both races takes you through Uptown Marion and the Marion Historic District. It's hip and historic, nostalgic and eccentric, preserved vintage charm layered with new, diverse culture and lots of spunk and energy. Uptown Marion is an official Iowa Main Street Distric. It's also a designated Cultural & Entertainment District, meaning that the area is officially recognized as a compact area with a high concentration of cultural facilities anchoring the area. We don't just claim to have a vibrant, interesting and exciting downtown area--we've got the official approval to prove it.
You'll run past a variety of boutique-style shops filled with unique gifts, clothing and home decor. There are art galleries and cutting-edge antique stores filled with the newest finds from our treasured past. There are museums and places to stay the night before the Festival and races. Of course, there are a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes to keep you entertained through Saturday night. Best of all, it's all close by the start and finish of the Half Marathon and 5K.
There's more to the course than just the start and finish, and we'll highlight more in future blog posts. But as you make your plans to run the Half Marathon or 5K, keep everything that historic Marion has to offer.
