Who Can Enter

Individuals:  Anyone who is at least 13 years of age as of race day can enter the Pigman Triathlon. The field will be limited to 600 participants.

Relay Teams are welcome at the Pigman Triathlon. Competition is relay style with three separate individuals. Sorry, you cannot do both individual and team competition.

Club Racing:  A clubs will consist of a minimum of 5 individual finishers.  Each club must also include at two female finishers.  Club members race as individuals and are also scored via cross-country style for their their club.

If you are not familiar with cross-country team scoring, here is how it works.  If scored by hand you would go through all the results and throw out any finisher not on a team.  Then you see how many there are who finished for each team.  If any team has less than five finishers and or less than two female finishers, they are thrown out and movement occurs again.  Finally, the places of the top three male and top two female finishers on each team are added up.  Low score wins.

Chip Timing

All JMS Racing Services events are now chip timed using the new state-of-the-art AMB Elite Timing System.  The AMB system debuted in the USA at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and also at the Tour de France in 2006.  The AMB system was developed with two goals in mind: 100% reliability and high accuracy.  This dedication to reliability can only be found in AMB’s active transponder (chip) technology.

AMB’s active transponders have internal long-life batteries that switch on and off as each athlete crosses over each start, split or finish line detection point.  Participants will be given a transponder attached to an adjustable strap that wraps around the ankle for use during the event.  DO NOT remove the transponder from the strap and NO other chip may be used in place of the provided transponder.

TRANSPONDER & STRAP

DETECTION POINT EXAMPLE

These transponders are not transferable!  Be careful not to switch with family members, friends, etc.  Transponders must be worn at all times during the event in order to receive any times.  For teams, one transponder will be provided for each team.  The transponder should be passed on to the next team member after each leg of the event.

As these transponders are very expensive, it is imperative that all participants return them at the completion of the event.  Volunteers at the finish line area will be prepared to take back the transponders as each participant finishes the event.  For participants that do not finish, please return the transponder to the finish line area before leaving the event.  Transponders can be mailed back to: JMS Racing Services at PO Box 582, Marion, IA 52302.  A $50 fee will be charged to each participant who does not return their transponder.

Awards

Cash Awards:

A total prize purse of $4,000 will be given out at the Pigman Sprint.  The overall top five male and female finishers will receive a prize purse of $3,000.  Elite, Age-group, Clydesdale and Athena participants are eligible for cash awards.  Breakdown of cash awards for male and females are the same and will be as follows:

1st Place - $600

2nd Place - $400

3rd Place - $250

4th Place - $150

5th Place - $100

An additional $750 bonus will be paid to the first individual participant to cross the finish line.   The elite men and women will be gender equalized so that they can race together for this $750 bonus.  Elite women will start in a separate wave prior to the elite men.  The time between the elite women’s wave start and the elite men’s wave start will be determined on race day.

The top Club will receive a $250 cash award.

Note about prize money.  Any race that offers more than $5,000 in prize money is required by the USAT to establish a separate pro division. This means that the race has to split the total prize money up between the pros and age groupers. The result is either a smaller purse for both pros and age groupers, or no prize money at all is made available for age groupers. The Pigman sets its purse in order to give all racers -- age groupers and pros -- a chance at the maximum amount of prize money.

Individual Awards:

Pigman awards to at least the top three finishers in each age group (13-14, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+) category.

Pigman awards to at least the top three finishers of the Clydesdale and Athena division.
